Goals And
Challenges

Every spring WorldQuant opens the gates to its International Quant Championship (IQC)—a global trading-algorithm competition with a USD $100K prize pool and the lure of full-time roles for the winners.

For 2025 the brief was bold:

  • More sign-ups, less spend. Beat 2024’s registration total while shrinking cost-per-acquisition.

  • Go truly global. Reach brilliant minds in 45 very different markets, from Nairobi to New York, without diluting the message or budget.

Move fast. Launch, learn and scale in a 58-day window, while staying compliant with dozens of local ad regulations.

Strategy

  1. “Global-to-Local” Playbook
We tiered markets into P1 (core STEM hubs) and P2 (high-potential up-and-coming), shifting dollars daily toward the lowest CPA pockets. India, Kenya and Nigeria quickly became breakout stars.
  2. Channel Stack Built for Discovery & Intent
  • Meta carried the storytelling load (91 % of spend), using thumb-stopping statics and 60-sec explainers to hook students and coders.

  • Google Search & Performance Max harvested people actively Googling “quant competition” or “WorldQuant BRAIN” driving $9.64 CPAs.

  • LinkedIn was tested, proved pricey, and its budget was swiftly redeployed to winning channels.

  1. Creative that Spoke to Competitive Spirits
Message pillars—Compete. Train. Win.—mirrored the championship journey. Local-language variants called out the $100K prize and saw engagement lift across Asia-Pacific.

4. Always-On Optimization Cadence
Across the 58-day sprint we executed 30+ in-flight tweaks—from expanding lookalikes to 5 % when frequency spiked, to launching “Last-Chance” retargeting in the final two weeks.

WHAT THIS MEANT FOR WORLDQUANT

  • A record talent pipeline. Registrations leapt from 14,292 to 33,210, giving the recruitment team its deepest pool yet.

  • Efficiency at scale. Even as spend doubled, average CPA fell to one-third of competitor benchmarks in key markets like India and Kenya.

  • Proof of concept for emerging regions. Africa’s P2 countries delivered 9,628 sign-ups at just $6.70 CPA, validating WorldQuant’s push into new geos.
